If a hand is hit when bunting?

In the most recent World Series game, Cole Hamals made an attempt to bunt. The ball, pitched by Scott Kazmir, hit the fingers of Hamals that were out over the plate. The pitch was called a strike, and Hamals later grounded into a fielder’s choice. But, why didn’t Hamals just take off his batting glove and show the umpire that he’d been hit? He would of gotten on base and not gotten into a fielder’s choice. If your body enters the strike zone, does it not count as a HBP?

Also, here’s a bonus question: When Hamals got on first, the first base coach retrieved Hamal’s coat from the dugout, and Hamals remained on the bases with his coat on for the rest of the inning. Since when is this allowed? And what’s the deal with these new weird fucking baseball hats that come with earflaps? When were these changes to the uniform approved?
