How can i improve my pitching? ex. throwing faster(i throw 65), location, and movement on my pitches?
tips on how to throw faster, how to locate better and how to improve my movement on my curve, change, slider, and knuckle? suggestion and tips will be helpful.
First thing, drop the knuckle ball. If you dont great movement already, its not worth it. Its a touch pitch, if u dont have it it takes ages to master.
Second thing, you need to mastercontrol. I am sure you have heard this before but control is more important than power to movement.
Third is MPH doesnt truly tell u how hard u throw. Changing speeds well can make a 70 mph fastball look like 80 mph. Also hiding the ball can add a visual 5-10 mph to a pitch. U can be sneaky fast while only throwing 70. Droping ur arm angle etc makes a difference too, never throwing the same pitch twice even if it just mean moving ur fingers the least little bit on the ball.
Forth is think like a pitcher. Know your hitters, be able to disect their swings, be able to look at situations, pitch to contact. Pitching is perfected between the ears. I kno u probably dont read too much but u should really look for Ron Darling’s book, The Complete Game. Great insight on pitching and the mindset.
Fifth if you truly wanna throw harder look into Dick Mills program. The newest and I believe most effective way to pitch is basically using the principles of elasticity.
By lengthening your stride you build up more energy and with the proper amount of torque someone standing only about 5-10 and weighing 160 pounds could throw up to 100 MPH.
Mills uses Tim Lincecum as the perfect example of this method. Timmy strides more than 110% of his height allowing him to keep his hips closed for as long as he can, building up more and more energy, until he plants, explodes and whips his arm through.
Mills studied film of some of the hardest throwing Hall of Fame pitchers from the past and has discovered that momentum and energy are the key.
This program is great. You will pick up 5-10 MPH within the first few times you tweak your motion. Plus it helps reduce arm injuries. For more info i urge you to go to pitching.com. Its worth the time and money, it WILL help and improve your game.
